I created these designs for a Practical Action film on post-tsunami relief and reconstruction in Sri Lanka, with a focus on the special needs of women. Women are too often portrayed as defenceless, helpless victims, but the film and its design show that they have distinct strengths as well as distinct needs, and that they are well able to cope with and lead in post-disaster situations, if only they are consulted.
The challenge was that I was given only low-resolution screenshots from the film, which were far too rough to print. To make them print-ready, I adjusted the contrast, converted them to black and white and traced them into vectors. The vector versions were clean and strong enough to print at full quality.
