I created the motion graphics for this video, produced for the Centre for Pesticide Suicide Prevention to highlight how Sri Lanka regulated highly hazardous pesticides to prevent suicides.
The video is structured in three parts. The Good looks at the carefully researched bans Sri Lanka introduced between 1980 and 2010, which contributed to a 70% drop in the annual suicide rate. The Bad covers the sudden 2021 ban on all synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, a very different policy with damaging consequences for agriculture. The Ugly warns that the second could overshadow the first, and that neighbouring countries might wrongly dismiss a proven, life-saving approach.
My task was to illustrate these ideas visually. I used bold, flat graphics, with simple silhouettes, clean line-work and bright colours, to make a heavy subject clear and approachable without losing its seriousness.
